Appropriate for ages K-3
Fantasy

Have you ever been frustrated about loosing something? Do you remember when only one sock came out of the drier and you wondered where the other one went? Have you been teased by your siblings? Well your not alone! Lizette in Lizette’s Green Sock by Catherina Valckx feels the same way! See what happens to Lizette during her mission to find the match to her other sock.

Lizette’s Green Sock is a fantasty story and Lizette is a duck that finds a green sock during her walk one day. She soon learns after being teased by her brothers that just one sock looks silly and that she must own a pair. She goes on an adventure to find the other one. She looks from a treetop, and a pond. She encounters her friend Bert, a mouse who is able to help out Lizette by turning the sock into something else that is useful and makes Lizette feel better about not having the other sock. Bert shares the sock with her. You will have to read the book to find out what happens to Lizette!

This is a cute story to read in your classroom that has more than one theme in the story that children can relate to in real life. One being that if you use your imagination, you can turn something negative into something positive, as Bert did with the sock. Another little theme was that even though siblings tease you, you can always remove yourself from the situation. The pictures are well done showing expression when lizette is sad when teased, or frustrated about not having the matching sock, or happy when her friend comes along to show her that it can be made into something else that does not need another match. I like how some pictures fill an entire page, some just fill one page and some just zoom in on the picture and it just placed in the middle of the page with white surrounding it. It gives a nice variety and keeps it interesting.
